I'm not particularly proud of most of the things that I've created in school so far, but I was incredibly pleased when I made this little model, enough so to share it with people who devWATCH my Scraps folder anyways :).

I modeled and textured this in about two and a half hours. Most of that time was spent getting the transparency and glow mapping adjusted to my liking. I made the texture in GIMP 2.8. This render has no post work. That alone to me is awesome considering how Daz Studio 4.7 could not possibly create the glow effects in a render without maybe a year or two to bake. Maya took a whopping three to four seconds to render this lol.

I am happy that you are starting to warm up to my favorite piece of software.
So, it seems that you noticed some performance differences too.

Is that device the same kind that I made here? fav.me/d7vcn88

Did you do the same kind of thing that I did for the volumetric light effect?
I used a cylinder with a textured map which was then reduced in transparency.
It looks like you used horizontal banding on yours, where mine was vertical.
Or, on the other hand, is that an actual volumetric light source of some kind?
